ART CLOTH SWAP
Australia's biggest ArtCloth swap is to be hosted by ArtWear Publications, in conjunction with the Textile Art Festival in Brisbane.
What better way to extend your silk collection and exhibit your skills at the same time? There will be an exhibition wall at the Textile Art Festival June 11-13, 2011, dedicated to a mini-ArtCloth swap.
It goes like this: person No 1 decorates a 70cm square of silk, puts it in a suitably sized envelope and includes a similar envelope - stamped and self-addressed, for the return of a piece of cloth the same size - with a business card (if you have one) and a few sentences about what you have done to the fabric.
The girls at Embellish magazine then type up your information and display it with your ArtCloth piece. After the Textile Art Festival, the girls at Embellish magazine will send you back a same-size silk piece from person No 2, and so on – so that everyone who enters receives a surprise piece of ArtCloth from a total stranger. The swap is meant to be fun, challenging and a great way to get yourself lots of publicity, while showcasing the diversity and creativity of ArtCloth enthusiasts. Obviously, you will not get your own silk back - it is a 'swap' challenge after all. But someone else will no doubt be as delighted to receive yours as you will be with theirs...
And – last but not least - there will also be a People's Choice so visitors to the Textile Art Festival can vote for their favourite too.
Please email thegirls@artwearpublications.com.au for the entry form and sign-on details. There is no entry fee - this swap is all about caring, sharing and exhibiting great pieces of complex cloth in a friendly, textile-infused environment.
