Pocket Challenge
Pockets used to be separate items tied around the body before someone had the clever idea of stitching them into clothing. They make a great small item to experiment with textile art techniques – enjoy this display.
Lucy Locket lost her pocket, Kitty Fisher found it...
This old rhyme is about pockets when they were separate from clothing – otherwise how could you lose a pocket? Pockets used to have ties to attach them around the waist.
Artists were invited to produce art work of small format that is inspiring, creative, unusual, exciting, surprising, amusing and well done.
Their work needed to incorporate textile material but the choice of materials was entirely up to them. They could use the embellisher machine, and include hand and/or machine stitch and also include non-textile materials.
We asked them to be challenged by new techniques, new materials, new experiments, new inspirations, pushing the boundaries.
We hope you enjoy this fabulous exhibition in 2011.
